Toronto Islands: a practical ferry and park day guide

Choose a ferry dock that matches your day, leave room for the return crossing, and build an island outing around a beach, a picnic or a walk instead of trying to cover everything.

For a first Toronto Islands visit, take the City ferry to Centre Island, choose one main activity and leave a generous gap before your mainland evening plans. A walk through the central park followed by a picnic or lakeside stop makes a complete outing. Extending east towards Ward’s Island works when walking itself is the point of your day.

The important planning decision is your dock, because the island park is larger than a skyline photograph suggests. This guide recommends a compact Centre Island visit for families and an optional one-way walk for people happy to spend more time on their feet. It uses the City’s current ferry information; sailing patterns and seasonal attractions change through the year.
