For a first visit to Kensington Market, start at Dundas Street West and Kensington Avenue, browse north to Baldwin Street, turn towards Augusta Avenue, and leave time for a meal and Bellevue Square Park. A half-day gives you room to stop without making every storefront an appointment. Choose two or three places you actively want to enter; let the rest of the route provide the discoveries.

The name describes a neighbourhood of shops, homes and streets rather than one market hall. Parks Canada identifies its small storefronts, converted houses and narrow streets as part of its historic character. That helps explain why a visit rewards looking closely at one block more than racing through a long list. Parks Canada neighbourhood description.
