A house search is really a choice about space, location and the work you are prepared to take on. These eight areas offer different ways to balance all three.
For buyers who want a house near a lively main street, start with Danforth East, Leslieville, the Junction and Bloor West Village. For a wider comparison of locations and housing forms, add Long Branch, Cliffside, Agincourt and Willowdale. Each can make sense for a different household; none is a universal answer to “where should I buy?”
This is an owner-occupier shortlist based on location and practical trade-offs, not a prediction of the next hot market. The right neighbourhood still needs to produce the right individual property. A renovated kitchen will not compensate for an unsuitable commute, and a large lot is not useful if its maintenance and carrying costs leave too little room for the rest of your life.
